The Benevolent Irish Society’s Museum opened in 2007 and is located in the Society’s clubrooms at 30 Harvey Road. It houses several artefacts pertaining to the Society’s extensive history and has storyboards detailing prominent features and figures of the Society’s past. Yet, while the museum may not be that old, the Society itself has a lengthy and distinguished history, being established in 1806. Prior to its present location, the Society was located at the historic St. Patrick’s Hall on Queen’s Road. The Society was founded as a non-denominational charitable organization and education became a fundamental feature of the Society’s mandate. The BIS has had historical connections to such important groups as the Irish Christian Brothers, and the Presentation Sisters. It also has historical connections to prominent figures in Newfoundland and Labrador history such as Bishop Michael Anthony Fleming, Patrick Morris, a leading reformer in the campaign for representative government who served as president for several years in the early 1800s, and also Judge William Higgins and P.T. McGrath, who played important roles in the resolution of the Labrador boundary dispute in 1927.

George Street United Church
Open: Saturday, September 25th, 10:00am - 4:00pm.
130 George Street West
This 137 year old church was constructed in 1837. Built of Native stone faced with cement and roofed with Newfoundland slate, the building was a modified Gothic Design. Unlike its sister churches, Cochrane Street Church and Gower Street Church, George Street Church, though situated in a crowded downtown area, managed to escape the ravages of fire. More than a century after its construction, though several times enlarged, the original building still stood, in the words of its historian, "sturdy and serviceable, elegantly simple, in harmony with its environment: a much-loved landmark to all with a sense of place who love St. John's."
Facilities: Disabled access, public washrooms.
Special Activities: The first tour of the building will begin at 10:30am. The men's choir will perform at 11:00am.
A light lunch will be served at noon.
The second tour will commence at 2:00pm, to be followed by another performance by the choir at 2:30pm.

Open: Sunday, September 26th, 10:00am - 4:00pm
3 Victoria Street
Like many other buildings in downtown St. Johns', the LSPU Hall currently stands on a site that has a history stretching back hundreds of years. The site has been owned by the first Congregationalist Church in Newfoundland (1789), the Sons of Temperance (1853), the Longshoremen's Protective Union (1912), and now the Resource Centre for the Arts (1976).
It was destroyed multiple times by the Great Fires that ravaged St. John's in the nineteenth century in 1817, 1892, and again in 1922, but each time it was rebuilt.
Since 1976 the LSPU Hall has housed the Resource Centre for the Arts (RCA), a non-profit organization committed to the advancement of the arts in Newfoundland and Labrador. In the years since, the building has hosted hundreds of plays, concerts, exhibitions, festivals, and workshops. It is now one of the most important centres for the performing arts in the province.

Newman Wine Vaults
Open: Saturday, September 25th, 10:00am - 4:00pm
Sunday, September 26th, 10:00am - 4:00pm
436 Water Street
In 1679, a Newman's ship bound for London was driven far from its planned course by pirates and foul weather. As winter was closing fast upon them, the captain of the ship sought shelter in St. John's, and it was decided to remain in the harbour until spring. The ship's cargo of wine was stored in caves. When the ship returned to London, the flavour of the port seemed to have improved. After that discovery, Newman's sent its port to Newfoundland to mature in wine cellars there.
The Newman Wine Vaults were constructed for this purpose sometime before 1845. As it presently stands, the Newman Wine Vaults consists of two large rooms running parallel to Water Street. Stone was used as the basic building material with lime mortar made from seashells. The vaults themselves are constructed of stone and fired red brick. The bricks are tapered to fit the curve of the vaults, with the headers always facing the floor, and are bound with lime mortar, although some cement was used during repairs on the building circa 1947. Each room is slightly over 11' wide, with the vaults reaching an average height of 10'5". The Vaults are currently enclosed by a 20th century structure of rubble stone and hydrostone block.
Facilities: Public Washrooms
Gift Shop
Special Activities: Tours available throughout the weekend. Take part in a wine tasting, guided by an expert. Other programming TBA
